| Equity markets performance was polarised in 2013 amid all the uncertainties brought about by talks of the US Fed tapering. In the next 1-2 years, are you even more optimistic on equities? |
| I cannot say that we are 'more' optimistic on equity on a general basis, as 2013 has been a very strong year for equities; however, we remain positive on equities for 2014 and our Strategic Outlook is 'Positive & Selective'. While some central banks are starting to normalise monetary policies, nearly all would remain highly accommodative throughout 2014; together with a slow but gradual global economic recovery, global stocks should have further room to grow. After the stellar gain last year, I do not expect the returns to be even higher this year. Though as correlation declines further, the 'alpha' return of bottom-up unconstrained stock and bond pickers could be substantial and the trick is 'Selective' in 2014. |
